ABOUT MOHAMMED ALI SHABBIR
Mohammed Ali Shabbir born on February 15, 1957, in Kamareddy of Nizamabad district, Sri Mohammed Ali Shabbir hails from an agricultural family. He is a Graduate in Commerce.
Shabbir Ali began his political career in late 1970s as a member of National Students Union of India (NSUI), the students’ wing of Congress party. Later he actively worked in the Youth Congress. He was given party ticket in 1989 elections from Kamareddy seat and he won with a thumping majority. He was also inducted in the cabinet of late Marri Chenna Reddy and he became one of the youngest minister in the State at the age of 31 years.
Later, he got the privilege of setting up country’s first Minorities Welfare Department in the year 1993 and also became the India’s first Minorities Welfare Minister in the State. He also held portfolios of Sugar, Fisheries and Khadi Village handicrafts.
Mr Shabbir Ali survived an assassination bid by the naxalites on 01.07.1997. He had miraculous escape along with M. Baga Reddy, MP and other senior leaders, from the ghastly incident of Claymore Bomb blast planted by Naxalites. A total of nine persons including Congress workers were killed in the incident.
He got re-elected from Kamareddy Constituency in April 2004 elections and won with a thumping majority of 52,600 votes against his nearest rival of BJP. He got the highest majority of votes among Congress candidates. He was also inducted as Minister for Information and Public Relations, Energy & Coal, Minorities Welfare, Wakf & Urdu Academy, NRI Affairs in the Cabinet of Dr. Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy.
Dr. Y.S. Rajashekhar Reddy took a decision to provide free power to agricultural farmers. As a minister of Energy, implemented the Promises with effective manner which was appreciated by many states. The Energy savings have got many awards by the Govt. of India and reorganization by the CRISIL.
He was instrumental in providing 4% reservations to the socially and educationally backward Muslims in education and employment in the State. He also tried and achieved to provide political reservation in Local Bodies. He was initiated number of Welfare Schemes for the Minority Community.
Mr. Shabbir Ali was made Incharge Minister for Greater Hyderabad to oversee the development programmes. During this regime, Hon’ble CM Dr. Y.S. Rajsekhar Reddy while reviving the City Development. Under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Mohammed Ali Shabbir, the NRIs issues were addressed. Following declaration of amnesty by the UAE, about 35,000 Andhra Pradesh workers were brought back to the State and 1,256 were given free tickets. The problem of Gulf NRI’s was promptly attended and separate cell was created for NRI Affairs at GAD for redresses of their grievances. The Ministry of External Affairs, had started Certification Centre in the Year-2007, to attest Birth Certificate, Education Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Etc., to facilitate the candidates for Employment and Education in Foreign Countries.
H.E. Vice-President of India Janab. M. Hamid Ansari was released Book Titled with “THE QUEST FOR MUSLIM RESERVATION” on 12th-July-2017 at his official residence in New Delhi. He commented that the efforts of Mr. Mohammed Ali Shabbir for implementing 4% Reservation to Muslims by overcoming all the administrative and legal hurdles. The book is well documented by Mohammed Ali Shabbir. He also wished that the reservation to be adopted by the Northern States of India, due to Socio-Economic conditions of Muslims in those areas.
He was elected as the Member of Legislative Council on March 14, 2013 for a period of six Years. He was elected as Leader of Opposition of Congress Legislative Party at Telangana Legislative Council which is a Cabinet Rank from 04th-April-2015 and he continues as LOP, TSLC.
