- Four Congress-backed candidates elected unopposed in Kamareddy gram panchayats
Kamareddy, November 29: Congress leader and Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Saturday said that party-backed candidates were likely to win 80% of the gram panchayat sarpanch seats in Kamareddy constituency. He attributed the expected success to the development initiatives undertaken by the Congress, which he said had strengthened the party’s grassroots support.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Congress district office in Kamareddy town, Shabbir Ali announced that four Congress-backed candidates had already been elected unopposed due to the absence of opposition nominees. The candidates are Kelothu Padma Swamy from Venuka Thanda in Machareddy mandal, Marupaka Anjamma Lakshmi Rajyam from Yellampet village, Banoth Sriram from Ankireddypalli Thanda, and Maloth Santosh from Bodagutta Thanda.
He added that the Telangana government was providing an incentive of Rs 10 lakh to sarpanches elected unanimously. In addition, Congress would ensure another Rs 10 lakh for each of them through MP funds, party SDF allocations, and personal contributions.
Shabbir Ali highlighted several welfare measures implemented by the Congress government, headed by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, in Telangana. He said Rs 304 crore in interest-free loans was being provided to women’s self-help groups across the state, and Rs 3.25 crore worth of cheques had been distributed in Kamareddy constituency. The third phase of interest-free loans was currently being rolled out across the state.
He further stated that 3,500 Indiramma houses had been sanctioned for women in Kamareddy. Households were receiving 200 units of free electricity, subsidised fine rice, and LPG cylinders at Rs 500. The government was also offering free bus travel for women and allotting petrol bunks to eligible female beneficiaries. (eom)
