Gandhians will not let Godse’s bhakts win this battle of ideologies: Shabbir

Hyderabad/Kamareddy, February 2: Former Minister & ex-Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir said that the followers of Mahatma Gandhi would never allow the Bhakts of Nathuram Godse to win the battle of ideologies.

He was speaking after unveiling the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Yelabgunda of Machareddy mandal in Kamareddy constituency on Wednesday. He said that the followers of Mahatma Gandhi’s killer Godse have been trying to distort history by highlighting the assassin as a martyr. He said that Mahatma Gandhi would continue to remain the symbol of peace and brotherhood while Godse would be treated as a traitor who killed the Father of the Nation.

Shabbir Ali said the BJP Govt at the Centre was patronising the hate mongers who wanted to disrupt peace in society. He said historical facts were being distorted with the sole intention of drawing political mileage. While Godse assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, his followers are trying to malign the image of Gandhiji by polluting the young minds with historically incorrect and baseless theories. However, he said that the Congress party would never tolerate any kind of attack on Mahatma Gandhi and would continue to spread his ideals without any fear.

The Congress leader also condemned Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for his remarks on changing the Constitution. He said Telangana State has become a reality due to the present Constitution and KCR is enjoying the present position only due to the Constitution. He said KCR’s remarks show his inclination towards the RSS and BJP’s ideology, which opposes a secular and democratic nation. He said KCR, is emulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in promoting the concept of dictatorship. He said KCR, who is already ruling like a dictator, wants to legitimise his position by changing the constitution.

Shabbir Ali said that KCR’s anti-Constitution remarks were aimed at depriving the SCs, STs and BCs who get reservation and other benefits provided to them by the Constitution. He demanded that the Chief Minister withdraw his remarks and tender an unconditional apology. He informed that as per the direction of TPCC President A. Revanth Reddy, the effigies of KCR were burnt across the Kamareddy constituency on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, Shabbir Ali inaugurated a mineral water plant near Shabbir Function Hall in Machareddy. He said that the mineral water plant has been established by Shabbir Ali Trust in collaboration with an NGO Bala Vikas. Shabbir Ali has donated Rs. 6 lakh for the establishment of the plant while taking care of other expenses. He also donated the space for the plant at his function hall, which also runs on a non-profit basis. He said now the people of Machareddy, his native village, will get mineral water for Rs. 3 per 20 litres. After deducting the maintenance cost, the remaining amount would be used by the NGO for other developmental purposes in the village.

Speaking on the occasion, Shabbir Ali said that when he represented the Kamareddy constituency as MLA and minister, he brought drinking water from Godavari River, constructed Indira Gandhi Stadium, Rajiv Gandhi Park and several other developmental works. He said that the concept of Mission Bhagiratha was adopted by the present TRS Govt from his scheme and this was acknowledged by CM KCR himself in the Legislative Council.

Shabbir Ali, his son and All India Youth Congress Secretary Mohammed Ilyas, Kamareddy DCC President Kailash Srinivas, Machareddy Mandal President Ganesh Naik and other senior leaders were also present.
