Shabbir Ali urges KTR to undergo narcotics test amid drug allegations

· Shabbir Ali ridicules KTR for playing victim card

Hyderabad, October 28: Congress senior leader and Advisor to Telangana Government (SC, ST, OBC & Minorities) Mohammed Ali Shabbir has demanded that BRS Working President K Tarakarama Rao take a narcotics test to address persistent allegations linking him to drug-related controversies.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, Shabbir Ali questioned the frequent association of KTR’s name with drug-related issues, asking, “Why are such allegations not surfacing against us?” He further criticised KTR’s response to the recent allegations and urged that a narcotics test would help clear suspicions.

Shabbir Ali referred to a 2020 incident where present Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy challenged KTR to undergo a narcotics test alongside him. According to Shabbir Ali, while Revanth Reddy was open to taking the test, KTR avoided it. He suggested that a test would help KTR remove any doubts surrounding his involvement in drug-related matters. Shabbir Ali added, “In politics, accusations are common, but leaders must clear their names before the public.” He urged KTR to acquire a clean certificate by voluntarily undergoing a test at the narcotics office.

Discussing the Janwada farmhouse incident, Shabbir Ali alleged that KTR’s brother-in-law Raj Pakala has been accused of organising gambling and consuming alcohol at the farmhouse. He noted that KTR’s reaction to this, claiming it was a family gathering, was unconvincing. He said, “A responsible leader should address why a guest tested positive for drugs at the venue.” Shabbir Ali questioned how foreign liquor was available at the gathering and demanded KTR clarify his stance.

Furthermore, Shabbir Ali called for an investigation into the alleged accumulation of assets by the family of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. He claimed that during KCR’s tenure, family members reportedly amassed significant wealth, including multiple farmhouses. He challenged KTR to disclose the origins of these assets, emphasising that Telangana residents deserved transparency.

According to Shabbir Ali, the presence of narcotics at the event raised concerns about drug culture in Telangana. “Despite evidence of a guest’s positive test for cocaine, KTR has avoided accountability,” he alleged.

He also highlighted a prior incident in 2020, where Revanth Reddy was illegally arrested for flying a drone over KTR’s farmhouse. Although Revanth Reddy was not present during the drone activity, he was named a primary accused in the case, charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and Aircraft Act. He questioned why, if the farmhouse was leased, Revanth Reddy was arrested for raising environmental concerns with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) regarding the property.

Addressing KTR’s recent statements accusing police and excise officials of planting liquor bottles, Shabbir Ali questioned if such officials could have forced someone to consume cocaine. He further alleged that KTR was attempting to discredit the Congress government, unable to accept the implementation of the six promised guarantees.

He said that the Congress government was committed to eradicating illegal drug use across Telangana, regardless of the stature of those involved. He stated, “The Congress is acting against illegal activities, unlike the BRS government, which allegedly encouraged rave parties.” Shabbir Ali added that the Congress’s actions were part of a broader strategy to instill fear among drug users and curb illegal gatherings across the state.

Shabbir Ali advised KTR to “face reality” and address the allegations by undergoing a narcotics test. He insisted that Congress was dedicated to cleaning up Telangana’s social environment and sending a clear message to those involved in illegal drug activities. (eom)
