Kamareddy, August 2: Senior Congress leader and Telangana Government Advisor (SC, ST, OBC & Minorities) Mohammad Ali Shabbir on Saturday launched the distribution of new ration cards and laid foundation stones for CC roads and drainage works worth Rs 7 crore in Kamareddy district. The events were held at Gosangi Colony, Indira Nagar Colony, Harijanwada in Kamareddy town, and at the Bichkunda mandal headquarters.

Addressing the public, Shabbir Ali said the Congress Government had fulfilled the decade-long dream of poor families waiting for ration cards. “This is a people’s government that delivers welfare schemes to the poor,” he said, adding that transparency and fairness are being maintained in identifying beneficiaries through gram sabhas.

He highlighted that Telangana now ranks first in the country in food security. Out of 1.15 crore eligible families, 93 lakh have received ration cards. Each person is being provided 6 kg of fine rice free of cost every month. “This rice distribution programme stands as a historic record in Indian welfare history,” he noted.

Shabbir Ali criticised the previous BRS regime, accusing it of denying ration cards for ten years. He said the Congress Government had resumed the process immediately after coming to power and is ensuring that every eligible family receives a card.

He also announced that Rs 7 crore had been sanctioned for laying CC roads and drainage pipelines in Kamareddy town.

Focusing on women’s development, he said the Congress Government aims to make one crore women financially self-reliant. Women’s self-help groups are now eligible for Rs 10 lakh accident and health insurance, and every member must have life insurance coverage.

He reaffirmed Congress’s commitment to the BC Declaration and said a proposal to enhance the BC quota to 42% has already been sent to the Governor, who forwarded it to the President of India for approval. Local body elections would be conducted based on the enhanced BC quota.

As part of the six election guarantees, Shabbir Ali said 3,500 Indiramma houses had been sanctioned for the constituency. He also stated that 51 lakh families across Telangana are currently benefiting from the 200-unit free electricity scheme. (eom)
