Hyderabad, July 27: Advisor to the Telangana Government Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Monday welcomed the State Government’s decision to introduce the Telangana Family Register and the Family Register Certificate, describing it as a landmark citizen-centric reform that would significantly benefit poor and economically weaker families by reducing the burden of producing multiple documents before different government departments.
Referring to G.O.Ms. No. 172 issued by the Revenue Department on July 25, Shabbir Ali congratulated Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for taking another major administrative reform initiative aimed at simplifying public services. He said the decision reflected the Congress government’s commitment to making governance more accessible, transparent and people-friendly.
Shabbir Ali recalled that on July 13 he had submitted a representation to the Chief Minister proposing that Telangana introduce a Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) on the lines of Karnataka to help genuine residents facing documentation difficulties, particularly during the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. While welcoming the Family Register, he said the government’s latest initiative addressed a broader administrative requirement by creating an authenticated digital record of family composition based on the Food Security Card database.
He said poor families, senior citizens, widows, daily wage workers and other vulnerable sections often struggle to establish family relationships while availing government services. Many are required to produce documents issued by different departments or make repeated visits to government offices for verification.
“The Telangana Family Register will substantially reduce these hardships by providing a single government-authenticated record of the entire family. This is an important administrative reform that will particularly benefit the poor, who often face the greatest difficulty in preserving old records and obtaining certificates from different authorities,” he said.
Shabbir Ali said the Family Register Certificate would contain digitally verified details of the head of the family, family members, their relationship, age, gender, Aadhaar particulars and address based on the Food Security Card database. Issued through MeeSeva after verification and digital approval by the Tahsildar, the certificate would ensure greater uniformity, transparency and efficiency in verification across government departments.
He said the initiative would save both time and money for citizens by eliminating the need to repeatedly obtain separate documents to establish family composition. “Eligible families can now secure a digitally signed Family Register Certificate within the prescribed timeline, making access to government services much simpler,” he said.
Shabbir Ali described the Telangana Family Register as an important milestone in the State’s journey towards digital governance and citizen-centric service delivery. He said the creation of a verified family database would simplify verification procedures, improve coordination among government departments and strengthen the delivery of public services.
He expressed confidence that the Family Register would serve as the foundation for several future citizen-centric initiatives and help the government deliver services more efficiently.
Shabbir Ali thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for introducing the reform, saying it would significantly ease the lives of ordinary citizens while strengthening Telangana’s digital governance framework. (Ends)
