- Students and parents felicitate Shabbir Ali, credit his reservation struggle for expanding professional education opportunities
Hyderabad, August 20: As many as 23 students from Adilabad district – 17 girls and six boys – realised their dream of pursuing medicine after securing MBBS seats through the BC-E category following their performance in NEET, with minority leaders and members of the community describing the achievement as a significant outcome of the 4% reservation for socially and educationally backward Muslims.
The students, accompanied by their parents and led by Adilabad Congress leader Mujahid, met Advisor to the Telangana Government, former minister and former Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir and felicitated him, expressing gratitude for his sustained struggle to secure 4% reservation for minorities.
The students said Shabbir Ali’s efforts had opened the doors of higher and professional education to thousands of poor and middle-class minority students like them.
They said they were indebted to him for his continuous struggle for minority reservation and for creating educational opportunities that enabled students from economically weaker families to aspire for professional courses such as medicine and engineering.
Mujahid praised Shabbir Ali’s contribution towards the educational advancement of minority students and said his long-standing fight for social justice and expansion of educational opportunities was now producing visible results.
Minority leaders and members of the community also congratulated the 23 students for their performance in NEET and for securing MBBS seats under the BC-E category.
They said the students’ success demonstrated how reservation could provide meaningful opportunities to talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds and help them fulfil their aspirations of becoming doctors.
The students, parents and Congress leaders also recalled the contribution of former Chief Minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy towards the welfare of the poor, weaker sections and minorities in undivided Andhra Pradesh.
They said the welfare programmes implemented during YSR’s tenure, particularly in education and healthcare, were guided by the objective of ensuring opportunities for children from poor families and had brought significant changes in the lives of many households.
“Shabbir Ali has always wanted minority students to become doctors, engineers and highly educated professionals. It is a matter of great happiness that, because of his struggle for the 4% reservation, 23 students have now secured an opportunity to pursue MBBS. This is an example of the success of social justice,” Congress leaders said.

Congress leaders said the achievement of 23 students – six boys and 17 girls – was a matter of pride not only for Adilabad district but also for minority students across Telangana.
